FREE 5-Ingredient Recipe EBook
GET IT NOWI’ve been making baked zucchini chips for nearly a decade, but when I got my air fryer a few years ago, these air fryer zucchini chips were one of the first things I tried in it. They’re even better! They turn out extra crunchy, they’re done faster, and you don’t have to heat up your kitchen. Whip up a batch with me for a healthy, crunchy snack in less than half an hour!
Why You Need My Air Fryer Zucchini Chips

- Light and crunchy – There’s nothing like a crispy, salty chip! These air fried zucchini chips have that satisfying crunch without being greasy or heavy.
- Just a few ingredients – You just need zucchini, oil, salt, and pepper. But I’ve got seasoning variations below to make different flavors.
- Super fast – I love that I can enjoy these in just 20 minutes! It’s much faster to air fry zucchini chips than it is to use your oven, though this method is best for smaller batches.
- No flour or breading – Which means they are easier (no eggs or bread crumbs to deal with) and healthier! If you’re looking for a breaded version, check out my air fryer zucchini, pan fried zucchini, or zucchini fries, instead.
- Healthy snack, appetizer, or side dish – My air fryer zucchini chips are crispy and light, but also a gluten-free, good-for-you way to eat your veggies.

Ingredients & Variations
Here I explain the best ingredients for air fryer zucchini chips, what each one does in my recipe, and substitution options. For measurements, see the recipe card.
- Zucchini – Any size will work, or you can even use yellow squash. If you have extra zucchini left over, use it to make my sauteed zucchini, zucchini pizza bites, stuffed zucchini boats, or zucchini roll ups.
- Olive Oil – I use extra virgin olive oil for best flavor, but you could use avocado oil or any neutral cooking oil you prefer.
- Sea Salt & Black Pepper
These are obviously very basic ingredients, but don’t miss my seasoning variations below to make different flavors!

How To Make Zucchini Chips In The Air Fryer
I have step-by-step photos here to help you visualize the recipe. For full instructions with amounts and temperatures, see the recipe card.
- Slice the zucchini. Cut the zucchini into thin slices, about 1/8 inch thick. Then, use a paper towel to pat away any excess moisture.
- Toss with seasoning. Season the zucchini with olive oil, sea salt, and black pepper to evenly coat the slices.
- Air fry zucchini chips. Place the zucchini slices in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook until golden brown, flipping halfway through. Let them cool to crisp up.

My Recipe Tips
- Use a mandoline for slicing. I just got this one and love it! It makes the process of slicing the zucchini so much faster, and more importantly, you get thin, even slices. It’s more difficult to get thin enough slices using a knife.
- Go light on the oil and seasoning. Too much oil can prevent crisping up. Also, air fryer zucchini chips shrink a lot, so if you season the zucchini like you normally would, they’ll be way too salty. Less is more here!
- Don’t crowd the basket. Overcrowding will lead to soggy chips, and nobody wants that. Cook in batches if necessary to get a single layer.
- Time can vary depending on thickness. Even slightly thicker or thinner can change the time! I recommend slicing the zucchini to be 1/8 inch thick. If yours are thicker, they will take longer and might not crisp up well at all.
- Pull out any chips that are browning. Even with a mandoline, sometimes some chips cook faster than others. I usually check on my zucchini chips in the air fryer around the 8-minute mark and remove any that are already starting to brown.
- Weigh down the chips if needed. I don’t usually have this issue with my air fryer (or an older one I had shown in these pictures either), but some readers have reported that the chips fly around in the air fryer due to the air flow. If yours is prone to this, you can weigh down the chips with a small rack or mesh mat — this set has these and a few other accessories.
- Let them cool. You can stop cooking once the chips are golden, but they need to cool down to crisp up fully.
Seasoning Variations
I love these air fryer zucchini chips simply seasoned with salt and pepper, but you can change it up with the seasonings below. These also work for my air fryer kale chips!
- Italian – Add a teaspoon of Italian seasoning and 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder.
- Spicy -When I want some heat, I use a teaspoon of Cajun seasoning or jerk seasoning, or simply a very light dusting of cayenne.
- Ranch – You can toss the chips in a teaspoon of my ranch seasoning mix either before or after air frying.
- Parmesan – A sprinkle of grated parmesan cheese takes these to the next level! You’ll need about 1/4 cup.
Storage & Meal Prep
- Store: As long as you cook them to be sufficiently crispy (i.e. without much moisture left), air fryer zucchini chips will keep in an airtight container the pantry for 1-2 weeks.
- Crisp up: They do get soft when you store them, so I usually pop the zucchini chips in the air fryer again (at the lowest temp so they don’t burn) for about a minute to crisp up again.
- Meal prep: You can definitely prep these in advance as crisp up like the above, but if you want that texture of freshly made ones (the best!), just slice the zucchini in advance and air fry zucchini chips the day-of.

Serving Ideas
Air fried zucchini chips make a great snack all on their own, and that’s how I enjoy them most often. But if you want a little something extra, try a dipping sauce. (I recommend larger zucchini if you want to dip them, so they are large enough for scooping!)
- Sauces – When I just want something simple, my ranch dressing or tahini sauce are perfect.
- Salsa – Crispy air fryer zucchini chips make great dippers for all kinds of salsa, from classic fresh tomato salsa to salsa verde, or even guacamole.
- Hot Dips – My favorite hot dip for these is crab dip, but spinach dip or sausage rotel dip would also be yummy.
- Cold Dips – Instead of crackers, use these chips with your pate or cold crab dip.
Tools I Use For This Recipe
- Mandoline Slicer – For slicing zucchini paper-thin and evenly. If you don’t have one, I highly recommend getting this one!
- Air Fryer – This is my favorite one, and I’ve tried several. It has a large basket, it’s easy to use, and cooks evenly.

Air Fryer Zucchini Chips

Gratitude Moment

Is it cliche to say I’m grateful for my air fryer? It’s my most used kitchen appliance!
Of all the kitchen tools I have, this is the #1 thing I knew I had to have with me while we’re back in Minnesota for the summer. It wasn’t feasible to transport it back and forth, so I got a second one to have here (in my very dark Minnesota kitchen, even in the summer… lol).

1Perfect. Made exactly as written.
Rita
1The recipe says if we let the zucchini chips cool they would be crispier. I frankly will never know, because the zucchini was so delicious it never makes it to the cooling off stage.
Vittoria Fraresso
0I followed this recipe precisely and my zucchini,’s were soft after 15 mins in the airfryer. Taste nice but not crispy at all.
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Vittoria, As I noted in the post, the time can vary depending on your air fryer and how thick you slice the zucchini. You can just air fry them for a bit longer to crisp up.
Christine
1Delicious in airfryer. Did 12 min.
Michele
1These Air Fryer Zucchini Chips were delicious! Crispy and perfect!
Kendra Van Sleet
0Yum! Such a satisfying but healthy snack.
Wholesome Yum D
0I’m so glad you liked it, Kendra! I totally agree, it’s the best kind of snack.
Leon Craig
0Love this recipe. Have used sweet potatoes as well, the same results.
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Thank you, Leon! Good to know it works for sweet potato chips too, I need to try that soon.
Marjorie Heard
0Hi Maya, the link for the mandoline goes to a page with many many mandolins. Which one do you actually use and recommend? Thanks Marj
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Marjorie, I use this mandoline and it goes to a specific one. Where do you see a link that goes to a page with many options?
Gayle
0I’m so pleased to have found this site. I am just starting out with keto, and I am a person who hates repetitive tasteless food. I like variety and I want to be able to taste what I have eaten 15 mins after eating! Not like mashed potato and 3 veg everynight! I am only sorry that I cannot access maya’s own products (living in Australia). I would be happy to be an agent for their distribution in Australia so that I could! Thanks maya for adding variety, taste and excitement to healthy meal prep!!!
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Thanks for being here, Gayle! I hope you like these zucchini chips. My products aren’t available in Australia yet, but hopefully someday!
Cheri
0This was an epic fail. It took so long to finish up one zucchini. Though they tasted good it would have been just as easy to fry them since they didn’t get all that crispy and I did dry them on paper towel and used a mandolin to slice them per directions the only good thing was the mandolin I bought. Loved it!
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Cheri, Sorry to hear these didn’t turn out like you expected. If they didn’t get crispy, it sounds like you needed to air fry them for longer. The time can vary depending on their exact thickness, the water content of your zucchini, and your particular air fryer. If you feel the air fryer method takes too long in terms of multiple batches, you might like my baked zucchini chips instead.
Chrismar
0Thanks Maya for the mandolin recommendation. I have been looking and comparing them for a while. I have a very expensive one from sur la table that is years and years old with a lot of use and has finally dulled the blade. I do not like the hand held ones. I just don’t feel as safe with them, Another great thing as I was ordering it, that price dropped. Yay! I am blessed in every way. Thanks again. I will let you know how I like it as soon as I use it. The first thing I am making are the zucchini chips. yum.
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0You’re very welcome, Chrismar! Yes, I had a handheld one for many years and didn’t realize what I was missing until I got this one, haha. I did try a couple stand-up ones before I settled on this one, though. Glad to hear you found a good price on it! Hope you enjoy the zucchini chips.
Lily Jane
0I made a batch for a family movie night, and they were gone in minutes. I love how easy they are to prepare and store for later. Reheating them in the air fryer brought back the crunch. Slicing the zucchini ahead of time and cooking them fresh is definitely the way to go for the best texture. This recipe is a new favorite for healthy snacking!
Deana
0My zucchini did not get crispy. They were soggy. I followed the recipe instructions to a tee. Any thoughts to get crispy zucchini chips?
Maya | Wholesome Yum
1Hi Deana, It sounds like they needed to air fry for longer. The time can vary depending on your air fryer and the exact thickness you slice the zucchini can make a big difference.
Manuel E GARCIA
0Fantastic recipes
Andrea
0I made the air fryer zucchini chips. I did them for 8 minutes, then 2 minutes, then 2 more, then 2 more, then turned up the temp and did it for 2 more minutes. Only a few browned and the rest remained soggy and not crisp. What did I do wrong? They do not look like the picture.,
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Andrea, Were your chips sliced to 1/8 inch thickness and arranged in a single layer. Thickness can make a big difference, and they won’t crisp up if they are overlapping.
Paula
0No matter temperature or number of minutes not turn out well. Going minute
by minute still too wet to too burnt. Did many batches with patted dried zucchini. Perhaps it’s just my type of fryer.?♀️
Patricia Bowman
0This was an epic fail for me. My air fryer blew the chips all over the place and caused them to fold up in a ball. I’m not sure how to do these with something to hold them down. Any suggestions?
Naomi
0Patricia What have you done to it… have the same here?
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Patricia, I haven’t experienced this, but a few people have mentioned it, so I think it can vary depending on your air fryer. I recommend a rack or mesh mat from a set like this to weigh down the chips if you have this issue.
jennifer
0Need much longer time to crisp and lower temp to not burn. Tasted good but still needed more time to be fully dried out.
Becky
0Totally limp after 12 minutes. Turned temp up to 375 for another 6 minutes. Somewhere golden but still limp. Should have read the comments first.
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Becky, Sorry this recipe didn’t meet your expectations. I recently updated the post to clarify that the thickness can make a big difference and that the chips do need to cool to crisp up fully.
Jennifer Thompson
0What parmesan cheese do you use?
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Jennifer, I did not use parmesan in this recipe, but you can sprinkle on grated parmesan if you like.
Janet
0This looks amazing. It looks like we will have a lot of zucchini this year. Thanks.
Kathleen Bert
0This recipe didn’t work for me. They did not get crispy but maybe I sliced them too thin or had too much olive oil. I’m trying the oven recipe though as well so maybe that will come out better!
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Kathleen, Sorry this recipe didn’t turn out as expected. Yes, too much oil can prevent them from crisping up well. Here is my baked zucchini chips recipe if you prefer to try that instead.
Lori
0Can you make the zucchini chips in the air fryer without using the basket?
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Lori, I’m not totally sure what you mean, the air fryer basket is a component of the air fryer itself and it’s where you put the food. Is your air fryer a different style?
carina garcia
0I just bought an air fryer yesterday, so I havent had a chance to try this chip recipe yet. Do you think it would work to use garlic powder instead of salt?
Wholesome Yum D
0Hi Carina, Yes, you can do that if you like. I still think they’d taste better with a little salt even if you add garlic powder, though.
Jennifer
0I just hand cut them as thin as I could, as I don’t have a mandolin. Most were not crispy but they were so delicious and addictive! No dip needed. Love your recipes. Will make these again.
Terri
0My air fryer is extremely small. Can I make these in the oven? Maybe at 400° for a few minutes?
Thanks!
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Terri, Yes, you can use your oven, but the method is a bit different. Here is my recipe for oven baked zucchini chips.
Jess
0How long do these keep for? Could I make it a part of my weekly meal prep?
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Jess, Yes, you can definitely meal prep these! I have 2 options in the post above.
Justyna
0I had to up the temp in my air fryer, but these turned out great and were just what I was looking for. I’ve baked them and deep fried before, but never air fried. I do variations. Today, I used pancake mix with some sugar and salt added because I was in the mood for something sweet. I think rosemary, garlic and thyme will be what I do when I want something savory. Thanks for the recipe!
Laura
0Great flavor….only did the basic recipe but all the chips flew around like butterflies in my fryer. Any ideas on how to prevent this? LOL! For my grilled cheese sandwiches, it was recommended to put a toothpick through the bread. I don’t think this would be feasible for chips.
Wholesome Yum A
0Hi Laura, you might have better luck layering another rack over the chips to weigh them down or keep them more secure under the heating element. Let me know if you try it!
Lily
0Well dang. These just didn’t work for me. Wouldn’t get crisp. Nice flavor though. It WAS the first thing I’ve done in my brand new Cuisinart air fryer so I’m sure it was a user error.
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Lily, Most likely the zucchini was too thick, or you needed to cook for longer, or possibly both. Times can vary depending on thickness and individual air fryer differences. Hope this helps!
Heather
0Can I make this in my oven on air fryer setting?
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Heather, You probably can, but ovens with an air fryer setting don’t work the same way as an air fryer, due to the much larger space, so the time and temp would probably be different. Please let me know how it goes if you try it.
Ann
0Just not worth the effort! The slices got blown around in the air fryer and I had to keep unfolding them and putting back in place. Plus could only do small batches at a time. I think it would be much easier to do a large batch all at once in the oven and they wouldn’t blow around.
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Ann, I didn’t have this issue with my air fryer, but if yours has this issue, you could put a wire rack on top of the chips to keep them from blowing around. If you want an oven version, you can make baked zucchini chips like this. They are more crispy in the air fryer, though.
Lee Ann
0Can you use other oils instead of olive oil?
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Lee Ann, Yes, pretty much any oil you like should work.
Elena
0325 was too low or I sliced to thin. Did come out as I thought.
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Elena, Sorry they didn’t turn out like you expected! I’d love to help troubleshoot if you can describe a bit more what happened.
Debra
0Thanks. I chose Keto, bc we have been wanting to try it….but would like Healthy of course. I don’t like to cook much, so I need easy, delish and healthy!!
Allison
0I had my gallbladder out. Are there low fat recipes with air fryers? Do you need fat to use an air fryer?
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Allison, This recipe is pretty low fat, at just over 3 grams per serving. A little bit of olive oil is needed to help the chips crisp up, but you can try using less.
Laurianne Manchester
0How do you store these? Thanks
Wholesome Yum D
0Hi Laurianne, You can find the storage instructions in the post above.
Irish
0I am making this tonight. They sound delicious. I am going to add a little garlic and less salt. Thank you for all the recipes. Everything I have made using your recipes has been so good.
Ali
0I tried this recipe in the air fryer, and they didn’t come out crispy at all. Very disappointed since I’m always looking for delicious alternatives to potato chips. I sliced them with our mandolin, squeezed out the water, etc. ???
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Ali, It sounds like you might need to cook them a little longer, but my recipe doesn’t call for squeezing out water. Just pat dry.
Lanna
0They are always always soggy and I can never get them crispy? Do I dehydrate them in air fryer or just air fry them ? Help!!! Please
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Lanna, It sounds like they need to air fry for longer. The time can vary depending on your air fryer and how thinly you slice the zucchini.
Elaine
0Can I use something else to omit the salt? Diabetic here.
Wholesome Yum D
0Hi Elaine, You could use a salt-free seasoning blend in its place.
wendy
0These look really good, but can they be made in an oven? I don’t have an air fryer, and I actually wouldn’t mind buying one for this and other recipes, but since they have to be cooked in a single layer, it seems like it would take forever just to make one batch.
wendy
0Nevermind. I see that you have a recipe for oven baking, but these look better. Do they get crispier in the air fryer?
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Wendy, Yes, the air fryer will get them slightly crispier.
Terri
0Delicious! Thank you!
Cindy Johnson Sessaman
0These are delicious, but how do you prevent them from not flying all over before they are done? I had to keep opening up air fryer and putting them back on place.
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Cindy, I’ve added tips for avoiding this issue in the post above.
Lydia
0So crispy and so good!
Cindy
0Love this. So healthy too!
Jennifer Taylor
0Mine blew all around in the air fryer. Causing them all to just be stuck together.
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Jennifer, Sorry this recipe didn’t turn out as expected. I didn’t have any issues with the chips blowing around my machine. Maybe try using a rack on top of the zucchini slices to keep it from blowing around?
Paula
0the air fryer made these so good. They stayed crisp!
Sandra
0what brand of air fryer did you use?
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Paula, I use and love this air fryer.
