GET IT NOWAir Fryer Green Beans (Foolproof & Flavorful!)

I used to roast green beans, but I’d either pull them too early and they’d be chewy, or get distracted and overcook them. I’m just not great at babysitting food — especially side dishes — and that’s exactly why air fryer green beans have become my go-to. The texture comes out perfectly crisp-tender every time, and I don’t have to hover over the oven. Just toss them in, walk away, and let the air fryer work its magic. Here’s why I think you’ll love them, too:
- Bold garlic lemon flavor – I love them with garlic and lemon for a fresh, savory kick, but you know I’m all about options. Check out more of my go-to seasoning ideas below if you want to switch it up!
- Dinner’s easiest side – Just 4 ingredients plus salt and pepper, quick prep, and cooks in under 10 minutes. It’s one of the fastest sides I make for dinner, and I make them often.
- No babysitting required – If you’re tired of hovering over the oven like I was, you’ll love how hands-off these are. Just toss them in and let the air fryer do its thing.
Make them with me for the easiest, fuss-free side!

Ingredients & Substitutions
Here I explain the best ingredients for my air fryer green beans recipe, what each one does, and substitution options. For measurements, see the recipe card.
- Fresh Green Beans – I usually go for bright green ones that snap when you bend them. That’s how you know they’re fresh. Frozen green beans work too (no need to thaw). If you’re using French green beans (also called haricots verts), just keep in mind they cook a little faster since they’re thinner.
- Garlic – I like using crushed garlic with a garlic press because it’s quick, but minced works just as well. You can also grab the jarred kind or use 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder instead.
- Spices – I kept it simple with just salt and pepper, but you can totally mix it up. Try a dash of paprika or onion powder, or go bold with seasoning blends like Italian, Cajun, or lemon pepper. They all work great here.
- Olive Oil – This is my go-to, but you can use any neutral cooking oil you like.
- Lemon Juice – I love the brightness it adds. Fresh is best, but bottled works fine if that’s what you have on hand.

VARIATION: Topping Ideas to make it your own!
I’ve topped these with grated parmesan, lemon zest, crumbled feta, crispy air fryer bacon, chopped walnuts, and even a few dried cranberries for a sweet-salty twist. Choose whatever sounds good to you!
How To Make Green Beans In The Air Fryer
I have step-by-step photos here to help you visualize the recipe. For full instructions with amounts and temperatures, see the recipe card.
- Combine. Add the green beans to a large bowl. Drizzle with the olive oil and lemon juice, then sprinkle with the garlic, sea salt, and black pepper. Toss everything together until the beans are evenly coated.
- Arrange. Place the seasoned green beans in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
- Air Fry. Cook until crisp tender, shaking the basket halfway through cooking. Remove and continue cooking in batches, if needed, until remaining air fryer green beans are done.

My Recipe Tips
- You can leave the green beans whole and just trim the ends, but I usually cut them into shorter pieces so they’re easier to eat. They cook the same either way.
- Air fryer green beans need a little space to crisp up. I try to keep them in a single layer becuase if they’re piled up, they’ll steam instead of roast. Cook in batches if needed.
- Preheating affects the cook time slightly. I usually preheat because my air fryer only starts counting down after it’s hot, so the actual cook time ends up shorter.
- How long to air fry green beans (and how to tell when they’re done)? I cook them at 375 degrees F for 7 to 10 minutes for that perfect crisp-tender bite. Overcooking will make them pale, mushy, and wrinkly. I usually get a few with slight wrinkles and that’s okay, but most should be plump and bright green.
- Can I cook frozen green beans in the air fryer? Yep, I’ve done it plenty of times when I don’t have fresh ones on hand. No need to thaw. Just cook them a minute or two longer.
- Give them a buttery finish. Sometimes I toss the green beans with a teaspoon of butter right after cooking. It melts in for extra flavor — a trick I picked up from my sautéed mushrooms and air fryer potatoes, and now I use it on pretty much every veggie.

Maya’s Recipe Notes
Serving size: 1/4 pound green beans, or 1/4 entire recipe
- Tips: Check out my recipe tips above to help you you nail the texture, boost the flavor, and make your green beans the star of the plate.
- Store: Keep leftovers in an airtight container the fridge for up to 4 days.
- Reheat: I like to reheat green beans in the air fryer for a few minutes to bring back that crisp-tender texture. The microwave works in a pinch, but they do turn out a little mushier.
- Freeze: Let the green beans cool, then spread them out on a lined baking sheet and freeze until solid. Transfer to a freezer-safe container or bag and keep for up to 2 months. You can reheat them straight from frozen.

Air Fryer Green Beans

What To Pair Them With
Here are some of my favorite ways to turn these air fryer green beans into a full meal:
- Dipping sauces – I like treating these like healthy fries sometimes. Try dipping them in lemon garlic aioli or honey mustard. It’s so good!
- Chicken – These go with just about any chicken recipe, but I especially love them with baked chicken thighs or creamy lemon chicken.
- Beef – Green beans are a classic with beef. I usually make them alongside juicy burgers or an air fryer steak for a quick weeknight dinner.
- Fish – My go-to is air fryer salmon so everything cooks in one appliance, but they’re also great with cod or baked shrimp.
